A full tarot deck is a set of cards with images that represent the forces of nature and the vices and virtues of humanity. A full tarot deck will include both major and minor arcana. The major arcana is comprised of 21 face cards; the minor arcana includes 4 suits with number cards (1-10) plus a King, Queen, Knight, and a Page.

A future telling spread is aimed specifically at the question “what next?” Future telling spreads differ from other spreads in that they do not so much invite thought or reflection on past events or even the current state of affairs, but rather in what will be at some point in the future. Future telling spreads diminish the role of free will and free choice and emphasize instead the beliefs of destiny. Future telling spreads therefore appeal to people who tend to feel they have little or no control over the events in their lives.

While there are many and varied definitions for tarot cards, there are some standard guides to follow for generally unified definitions. In the late 19th century, the Order of the Golden Dawn updated ancient tarot decks in an attempt to establish conformity that fairly represented the vast diversity of the tarot tradition. It is from this modern work of cards that the following definitions are drawn.
