There has been a lot of attention on alternatives to gasoline. With the prices rising continuously people are starting to worry how they will ever afford to fill their tank. For a long time it has been the custom in America and abroad for the bride to give wedding favors to her guests that have come to pay her homage on her wedding day. To show her and her family’s appreciation for their coming and the gifts they will give. Although wedding favors are not usually, the first thing the bride and groom to be going to think of when they are making out their list of things that needs attention for their wedding day to run smoothly. Wedding favors are of importance and if they are unique, that makes them so much more desirable. For a proper wedding, they have to be included in the budget, but they need not be that expensive. In fact, some unique favors hardly cost any money at all.

It is the custom of the bride to give wedding favors at the wedding reception as a thank you for the presence of the wedding guests at her wedding and for helping to make it a more memorable day and also for the guest to have a remembrance of her wedding. No one knows exactly when this custom began, just that it is old. Some people think it started in Italy as long ago as the eighth century. It is known that at the end of the nineteenth century it was considered the popular thing to do. From royalty giving out silver to the peasant class giving out a few treasured almonds in a cardboard box everybody was doing it.

Wedding favors are those small gifts that are given as a gesture of appreciation to people who attend a wedding. Giving these gifts or favors is a very old tradition and the European aristocrats had such favors as bonbonniere, which was the best wedding favor at the time and was a small trinket box made of crystal, porcelain and other precious stones. Inside these boxes were sugar cubes and other delicate confections. Almonds coated with sugar replaced these bonbonnieres and these sugared almonds are the ancestors of the current favors. Today, these favors are shared in many cultures worldwide and particularly in the United States and Canada. These favors are diverse, depending mostly on the financial capabilities of a couple and they usually complement the theme of the wedding.

Bridal parties started back in the United States when brides were not allowed to get married by their family members. This was became an exciting tradition whereby dowry was paid without the bride’s family presence. To this day, it is evolved to be a fun event where the bridal party and friends gather to celebrate the great occasion.

I’m sure most of you from Long Island NY go to the Who Cares Committee Toy Run every year and have been going for many years as it is a Long Island Biker tradition! Some of you may or may not know over a few years back Bob Whelehan (a good friend of mine) who was the President of the Committee passed away due to complications caused by his Diabetes, leaving his Wife and Kids with many bills to take care of. His Wife Liz known as Mom to many because of how giving she has always been took over as President of the Committee and running the Toy Run to make sure the Children of the St. Chris-Ottille Residential Treatment Center in Sea Cliff Still received their Presents every year.Even with her own bills piling up due to the loss of her Husbands income!!!
