To accommodate the warm climate of Hawaii, wedding dresses there can be a white long-sleeved gown or even a floral printed spaghetti dress. The old days were much stricter though, as the holoku or holokeg was the only available option for Hawaiian females to wear on the day of their wedding.
A holoku is a long-sleeved gown with a long train at the back that fits tightly around the waist and hips. It was previously exclusive to Hawaiian queens, but today, every girl about to get married can wear the extravagant outfit. The dress eventually became so common that everybody started using it as everyday clothes. Holoku is often made from silk after the Chinese introduced the material to Hawaiian natives many years ago.
There is little difference between the old holoku and its new version. Many of the added design found on the new holoku are just updates to make it catch up with the latest fashion trends. One holoku style has a shorter hemline and no sleeves, making it an ideal bridal outfit for beach weddings.
A more modern and radical approach to a Hawaiian wedding is to simply go with a sarong. The breathable fabric is also ideal for a cozy wedding at the coast, while the bright floral prints matches the theme of the island. The huge cloth can be simply wrapped around the body, with the hemline reaching up to the knees, calves or ankles. Making the sarong more accessible and posh are the buttons or snaps attached to it. Simply slip it in and the wedding can get started.
Getting a Hawaiian wedding dresses is not as difficult as it is with traditional wedding clothes. These cozy garments are plentiful in Hawaiian department stores. It can even be acquired digitally, by placing a shopping order online. It seems that the sanctity of the holoku has disappeared as some of them are even going for discounted rates.
