Pheromones: Are Humans Affected By Them?
Oct 8th, 2008 by Pamella Neely
You may have heard of pheromones, but if you are otherwise at sea as far as they are concerned, read on. Pheromones are chemicals found in insects, animals, and humans that initiate a response from the opposite sex. The question “Do human pheromones work?” is continually asked. To date, the answers to this question are wide-ranging and diverse.
Scientists have been researching pheromones and their effect on humans for quite some time. Some believe that humans are not capable of sensing pheromones;therefore, pheromones simply do not matter when it comes to understanding human sexuality. Others, however, believe that humans have a VNO (Vomeronasal Organ) in our noses, which is capable of detecting sexual attraction between two individuals of the opposite sex.
The pheromone human study has been conducted several times over. Pheromone cologne has been developed that claims to make one sexually irresistible to the opposite sex. You may have seen commercials advertising pheromone colognes for men. The opinions of these perfumes that use pheromones is somewhat divided. While some swear by these pheromone colognes to get dates, others say that it is not the pheromones at work, but rather normal chemistry between two members of the opposite sex.
There are some scientists who think that human pheromones are released through our sweat. This causes many people to wonder how pheromones can possibly get into colognes. Colognes use synthetic pheromones, so they do not accurately represent human pheromones. Because of this, many people question whether pheromone colognes can actually be effective.
So will spraying yourself with colognes that use pheromones attract the opposite sex to you? More than likely, the answer to this question is no. While it is not likely that colognes containing pheromones will get someone to ask you out on a date, it is possible that these colognes might be persuasive enough to get someone interesting to talk to you.
Perfumes that contain pheromones might possibly enhance your appeal, particularly if you are a woman. You should not expect too much, however, if you decide to use pheromone-enhanced perfumes or cologne. They may have some positive effect on other humans, but there is no clear evidence of this.
Do human pheromones really work? One way you can find out is to try an experiment. Buy a small bottle of pheromone cologne and see if it works for you.
