The history of Tarot No one really knows exactly where or when Tarot started but there are proof found of Tarot cards used in the fifteenth century. There are even Tarot decks from back then that have been found and kept up untill today.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the cards were discovered and used by a number of scholars of the occult who realized that the cards were much more powerful than just a card game.
Since then the Traot have had connections with secret societies such as the order of the golden dawn. Kabbalah, Egyptian mysteries and Hermetic philosophy has also shaped Tarot into what it is today.
Can anyone use Tarot cards? Psychic readings and Tarot readings have always been portrayed as occult, dark and scary by “Hollywood” movies showing the typical old and ugly psychic living in a dark, dirty hole somewhere scary.
Anyone can use Tarot cards, not only psychics. It just takes practice, and in the end, Tarot is just another tool to reach the powers of the unconscious mind, much like meditating, psychotherapy and visualization.
Exactly how Tarot cards work has many different interpretations. Some claim that the cards are just tools for communicating with spirits, psychic phenomena or intuition. Others mean that the number of people that have meditating on the cards have collectively created an energy around the cards.
Tarot Cards The total number of cards in a Tarot deck is 78. 22 of these cards are major arcana or “trumps”. The trumps are cards like The Fool, The Pope, The Lovers and The World.
There are no limits to the amount of different Tarot cards and the meaning of the cards stay the same even if the graphics and look change. However, some decks are more suitable to specific sorts of readings.
