Unraveling the Mystery of the Tarot
Nov 9th, 2008 by Jack Levine
Originally the tarot cards that you see today were created for use in a game that was called triumphs. The cards were designed specifically for use in this game and it originally was a game that was played by the elites in 15th century Italy. The use of these cards was never meant to be a method of divination.
That leaves a very big question about the origin of the divination properties of these cards. Somewhere in history the original use of the cards changed and they went from a fun entertaining game to a mysterious method of telling the future. It seems as though when the cards traveled from place to place, they took on some of the culture that they were exposed to.
When the cards were in France in the 18th century, the country was going through a period of occultism. The cards naturally fit the bill when their unusual pictures were discovered and the possible meanings behind them. The French believed that the cards were the product of the Romany who were the gypsies that roamed Europe, but they did not originate the cards.
Many people today believe that the cards have some sort of divination properties and there may well be some truth to this belief. The cards may not be telling the future but they are able to help people gain an insight into a known truth. When you lay the cards in a particular spread and concentrate on a problem that you are having, the meanings in the pictures will begin to help you see your way clear to the solution of your problem.
There are times when the answers to your question are locked up in your mind and the cards can be a great tool for unlocking the doors that keep the answers away from you. It is a tool that can make a situation clear and help you to see things in a simple way. The answer was right before you all along, you just needed a bit of help to see it more clearly.
There are those that believe that we know the answers to all of our questions already and if we look deep enough into our own minds we will find them. The cards and some of the other methods that are used are just a way to get to the heart of the answers. Try it and see if a little meditation on a problem doesn’t help the situation in ways that you didn’t think were possible.
There is no doubt that the mystery that surrounds the tarot cards is one of the things that keeps them wrapped in an aura of the occult. We are fascinated by things that cannot be explained and will usually attribute fascinating qualities to those things. The tarot cards that we have today may be nothing more than a relic of a game from a past era, but because we do not know for sure how they came to be what they are today we have made them into something spectacular in their abilities.
There is no doubt that these cards are beautiful and that they deserve some of the speculation on their origins, but they may not be anything more than a tool to unlock your own divination abilities. It is interesting, however, that the game that they were made for did not survive the generations but these mysterious and beautiful cards did.
